Dementia Home Care

Dementia Home Care in Melbourne - We Provide Support Services For Dementia Patients

The Dementia Care Melbourne Trusts

Palliative care at a hospice or hospital can make clients feel more like patients than people. That’s why we take a different approach, bringing the quality care you would expect from a hospital to your own home.

We can assist family carers on occasion or provide full 24/7 palliative care support, allowing you to spend quality time with their loved ones without worry.

Loved ones may be unable to take on the tasks needed to provide palliative care at home, but that shouldn’t mean that a person has to spend the rest of their life in a hospital or hospice. That’s why at Endeavour In Home Care, we offer all the support needed to ensure that our clients’ final days are spent in their own home.

We offer in-home palliative care for people living with a life-limiting illness, allowing you to live comfortably in a familiar environment and enjoy the best quality of life possible. Although we specialise in end of life care services for older Australians, we provide assistance to people of all ages in Melbourne.

What Is Dementia?

Dementia Australia defines dementia as follows:

"Dementia describes a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. It is not one specific disease. Dementia affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Brain function is affected enough to interfere with the person’s normal social or working life."

Although the most common form of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, accounting for around 60% of cases, there are many types of dementia – in fact, there are over 100 diseases that can cause dementia.

In general, those living with dementia will likely experience three phases: Early Dementia, Moderate Dementia, and Advanced Dementia. The first stage can often be missed by friends and family members, as it is easier to cover up. A person may be experiencing some memory loss, but otherwise function fine.

As the dementia progresses, however, they may experience more psychological symptoms such as becoming confused regarding the time or place, getting lost if in unfamiliar surroundings, forgetting recent events and things like food on the stove, and become frustrated or distressed.

People at the last stage will require a great deal of specialised care, whether by a family member or a support service. They are limited in their decision making and often unable to fully care for themselves on an everyday basis. At this point, you many want to consider consulting aged care services that specialise in dementia, such as EIH Care.
